Joshua Cordonnier

Josh is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and group therapist who has practiced psychotherapy since 1996. He earned his Masters Degree from the University of Texas at Austin and has worked with both adults and children in private practice, hospitals, outpatient clinics, and community organizations. Josh developed a passion for group therapy and has led therapy groups for adults since 1994. Through the American Group Psychotherapy Association, he became a Certified Group Psychotherapist (CGP). Prior to coming to Charlottesville, Josh worked with children to improve their social skills and emotional health at In-Step in Fairfax, VA.

Josh sees adults, teens and children in his current practice with Charlottesville Psychological Association. Adults who struggle with depression or anxiety, problems with relationships, their sense of identity was well as personal and professional growth issues may benefit from working with Josh. Josh's clients value his calm, nonjudgmental attitude as well as his willingness to understand them. He offers his insights and straightforward feedback. Josh sees individuals and is forming a mixed gender psychotherapy group for adults. He is also forming a young adult, college aged support group for women and men.

Children and teens whose challenges include Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Asperger's Syndrome, Depression, and Anxiety work well with Josh. In addition, he can help children and families cope with complex issues like adoption, divorce, building friendships, teasing/bullying, anger control, social skills and self-esteem. Josh began working with youth in inner-city Denver when he was 16 years old and has always kept part of his practice devoted to working with young people. He currently offers a group for middle school age boys and is forming a group for elementary age children focused on social skills.

To other professionals, Josh provides supervision, consultation and therapy. In addition, Josh speaks to community organizations on a variety of topics including: Social Skills/Social I.Q., Social Development in Children, Teasing/Bullying, Anger Control, Character Development and Self-Esteem Building.
