Steven E. Sayre, L.C.S.W., graduated from the University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work in 1979 after completing internships in substance abuse and community mental health. Prior to joining Charlottesville Psychological Associates in 1994, he worked in a variety of clinical settings. He was a clinician at a rural community mental health center in Indiana. At the University of Virginia Medical Center, he helped develop an in-patient alcoholism treatment program while also working in the in-patient psychiatry units and the Crisis Intervention Center. In 1985, he joined a private practice affiliated with a residential substance abuse treatment center, and has been in his own private practice since 1986. He has held appointments at the University of Virginia School of Medicine as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatric Medicine and Clinical Assistant Professor of Social Work, and at Virginia Commonwealth University as adjunct faculty in the School of Social Work. He is a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers and is a Board Certified Diplomate in Clinical Social Work.
Mr. Sayre's major clinical interests include substance abuse and addictions, marital therapy, and anxiety and mood disorders. He currently offers individual therapy for adults, along with marital and family therapy.
