Stephen Heim, Ph.D., is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years of experience. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland in 1976 with an internship at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. Dr. Heim taught in the Psychology Department at the University of Missouri before coming to Charlottesville. He has been the chief psychologist at several Commonwealth of Virginia facilities and adjunct faculty at the University of Virginia. He is one of the founding partners at Charlottesville Psychological Associates.
Dr. Heim has received extensive training in Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy and is the only clinician in the central Virginia area trained in this technique. He has also developed a specialty in consultation and evaluation for child custody issues, where he has a special interest in relocation or "move away" cases. Dr. Heim sees adults and late adolescents in individual psychotherapy, specializing in patients who have had difficulties in previous attempts at treatment.
